"aMazing Journey" by Dale Rose & Girl Scouts Beyond Bars

It's a great thrill to see one of the students from my Roots & Practice class take what she learned and hit the streets. Dale Rose recently worked with the Girl Scouts Beyond Bars program to complete the mural pictured below.
"aMazing Journey"

Dale writes about the project -
The mural is for the completion of the badge "aMusing Journey." It incorporates the 100th birthday of Girl Scouts and Troop 2026 troop song. The mural is on a 10' by 10' PVC frame covered in a canvas.  It is a free standing mural with the ability to be taken apart, moved and reassembled. The process of bringing a community together included asking a questions and having individuals answer them. By developing a community mural based on these questions, the mural is a reflection of the personality of the group.  This group of Girl Scouts is made up of incarcerated mothers with the girls visiting once a month.

The process for this mural started on December 17, 2012.  The girls were brought in twice a month to work on the mural for January and February.   By taking different phrases out of the troop song, the art work was generated.  Listening to the group, brought about the silhouettes around the Girl Scout emblem.(present Girl
Scout emblem is a silhouette with three of the same face).  The light green color in the middle worked out well because it's a shade of green for Girl Scouts and that was the color paper that the group drew on.  The faces in the middle came to gather better  because the faces were done with different size brush strokes.

Maine Mural Controversy

It looks like the mural removed from the Department of Labor in Maine may be on its way back.

Interesting Project in KC

This link brought to you by classmate Katie Mantooth. I'm not familiar with this project, but it sounds interesting.
